1,234 Trips, $7,607 Saved by South Metro Commuters Trying Transit

This September, Shift teamed up with Georgia Commute Options to challenge South Metro and ATL Airport-area employees to give MARTA a real try for their work trips. Commuters showed up. Over 30 days, participants logged 1,234 transit trips in MyGCO, and free MARTA passes reached employees at 104 different employers across the district.

Try Transit Month by the numbers

  • 1,234 transit trips logged in MyGCO
  • 19,017 miles traveled on transit
  • $7,607 in estimated commute savings
  • 6.35 tons of estimated CO2 emissions avoided
  • 126 free 10-trip MARTA passes distributed
  • 104 unique employers reached

Behind each number is a commuter who skipped the drive, skipped the parking cost, or kept a transit routine going through a busy month. Savings and emissions figures are calculated by MyGCO from the trips participants logged.

New riders and regular riders, both on board

Try Transit Month was designed for employees new to transit or starting new jobs and building new routines. 24 passes went to new riders testing MARTA for their commute, along with first-ride guidance and a personalized step-by-step commute plan from the Shift team, for those who requested one

Another 102 passes went to employees who already ride transit. That support matters just as much. Starting a transit commute is the hard part, but sticking with it is where the savings add up, and lowering costs for regular riders helps keep transit the easy choice.

Passes reached employees at 104 different employers, a clear signal that demand for

transit options is not limited to one company or one shift. Reliable transportation is a workforce issue. When a new hire starts Day 1 with a pass in hand and a route already planned, getting to work stops being one more unknown in a new job.

Shift works with employers to build commute support into onboarding and benefits, from Day 1 commute information and MARTA passes to custom commute plans for every shift pattern.
