I’m a new employee

Great! Congratulations on your new job.

As a new employee, there is often a lot to figure out. As the official employee transportation program of the ATL airport, Shift is here to help you find your best way to get to work.

The best place to start: get the free GA Commute App. It will show you all the best ways to get to work, including:

  • All bus or train routes from where you live.
  • A list of other airport employees that live near you (and work a similar schedule) that are open to sharing the ride to work. It’s a great way to cut your gas and parking costs in half! You won’t find this on Google Maps!

Here’s how easy it is:

  1. Sign-up or log-in to a My Georgia Commute Options account
    – Or get the GA Commute App
    1. Get it here on the App Store
    2. Get it here on Google Play

If your best way to get to the airport is on a MARTA train or bus, take a moment to check our definitive guide to using MARTA as an ATL airport employee. This has seven great tips to make using MARTA a breeze. At $2.50 each way, this will almost always be your cheapest option to get to work.

If you live south of the airport, we compiled this special guide showing ways airport employees can get to work on MARTA from south of the airport

If you are planning to drive to work and park, and you are not yet sure where to park, you will want to take a look at the Shift Insider’s Guide to ATL Airport Parking. Our team did all the research so you don’t have to. The cost of parking at the airport ranges from $8.00 a day to over $35.00 a day, so reviewing our parking guide is time well spent.

If you aren’t sure you will always have a car to get to work, you may sometimes need a ride to work. Don’t turn to Uber or Lyft. They are getting too expensive. Instead, check out this short post on ways to hop a ride with other people that also work at the airport.

One more thing…

I need a ride to work

Finding a reliable ride to work is essential for all ATL airport jobs. We know this can be hard.

If you aren’t sure you will always have a car to get to work, or someone to drop you off, these are generally the best options to find a ride to work:

  • Taking Uber or Lyft
  • MARTA train or bus
  • Getting a ride with another person that also works at the airport

We know Uber and Lyft are getting more and more expensive. In fact, average Uber prices rose 92 percent between 2018 and 2021!

Let’s look at the other two options…

The best place to start is to get the free GA Commute App. It will show you:

  • All bus or train routes from where you live.
  • A list of other airport employees that live near you (and work a similar schedule) that are open to sharing the ride to work. You won’t find this on Google Maps!

It’s easy to get started:

  1. Get the GA Commute App:
  2. Create your profile (check out our short video showing how easy this is)
  3. Search for rides (check out our short video to see how this works)

The GA Commute App is brought to you by our friends at Georgia Commute Options (part of Atlanta’s regional government). It is totally free for ATL airport employees to use.

If there is a good MARTA option for you, check our definitive guide to using MARTA as an ATL airport employee. This has seven great tips to make using MARTA a breeze.

If you live south of the airport, we compiled this special guide showing ways airport employees can get to work on MARTA from south of the airport.

If there are no trains or buses near where you stay, check out this short post on ways to hop a ride with other people that also work at the airport.
