How Shift Improved Commutes, Saved South Metro Employees Money

This year, Shift helped employers and workers avoid traffic, save money, and get to work easier in the ATL Airport district. With support from the Atlanta Airport Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs), we shared parking and transit info, offered clean commute rewards, and helped Fulton County and Fayette County employees on their trips to work. Here’s how.

New name, more resources

Early in fall 2024, the ATL Airport Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs), relaunched and expanded their Transport Management Association (TMA) to help more commuters in and around the airport. Building on our success in carpooling rewards and employer-funded transit programs, Shift (formerly Aero) now covers parts of Fulton County and Clayton County near the airport. That includes the cities of Atlanta, College Park, East Point, Hapeville, and Forest Park.

The new and improved Shift helps employees find low-cost, low-hassle commutes and work with employers to set up transit programs and commuter benefits. Shift is working toward the Atlanta Regional Commission’s (ARC) goal of reducing single-occupancy vehicle trips, leading to less congestion and better air quality.

Here's how Shift and MyGCO get you home

We made 113 custom route plans for employees in Hartsfield-Jackson, South Cargo, and more district destinations. These plans (which they get directly, via email or text) help commuters explore how they can switch up their commute to save money, gas, and time—whether that’s carpooling with coworkers, driving a more efficient path, or taking transit.

Shift also brought ways for workers to get rewards: in October, we shared the good news about Love to Ride’s Biketober challenge and prizes. Airport employees flew ahead in logging bike rides for trips: Delta’s team stacked up 4,400 miles in a month! Workers won gift cards, bike accessories, and more freebies for participating.

The payday didn’t stop there: in November, we ran a Share the Ride competition, which gave new carpoolers $10 at Amazon for logging a trip and entered current carpoolers in a raffle for a $100 Amazon gift card. Riders took 655 trips for those rewards, reducing local CO2 emissions by nearly 3 MILLION pounds!

All year long, Shift MyGCO users logged their clean commutes to get free rides home, coupon codes, and even $5 for every 5 trips (up to $150.) We traveled 475, 031 miles via carpool, transit, bike, and telework this year: enough to travel across the U.S. 17 times. Those trips helped employees save $200,000 in gas and car costs and reduce their carbon footprint by 138 tons.

Transit programs and travel info for employers

In 2024, Shift worked with 30 employers in Atlanta, East Point, College Park, Forest Park, and Hapeville to share commute resources and tips with their workforce. We supported employer-offered transit programs, distributed transit info to new hires, and worked on filling the transportation gaps in and around the Harstfield-Jackson airport

More’s coming soon from our employer partnerships in 2025. Keep an eye out for more resources for our warehouse partners, some new transit options, and other exciting updates.
